The allegation of serious assault on a person at the Suva Remand Centre is under investigation after a mother has raised concerns.
This was stated by the Chief of Intelligence, Investigations and Prosecutions Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Sakeo Raikaci.
Acting ACP Raikaci says investigators are in the process of gathering statements before the suspects are brought in for questioning.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Siromi Turaga says that violence is a crime, and allegations of assault on any person in detention will be referred to relevant authorities to be dealt with under the law.
Turaga confirms that the allegations are currently being investigated by relevant authorities.
The AG says he has personally made contact with the mother of the alleged victim and has emphasised that all acts of violence are not condoned by the Coalition Government.
He says that following investigations the relevant authorities will provide an update according to law.
The AG also gave an assurance that the law will be followed and if more allegations come to light, referrals will be made to the relevant authority to investigate.
