The U.S. women's basketball team has won its seventh consecutive gold medal with a 90-75 victory over Japan at Tokyo 2020.
Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi have become the first basketball players – female or male – to win five Olympic gold medals.

Bird who is 40 and Taurasi who is 39 have been mainstays in international women's basketball for most of their careers since graduating from the University of Connecticut two years apart – Bird in 2002 and Taurasi in '04.
Each made their Olympic debuts at the 2004 Athens Games.
Team USA ran its winning streak to 55 games in Olympic play – its last loss came in the semifinals of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics – and the program has won nine of 12 gold medals since women's basketball debuted at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal.
