The Fiji Pine industry marked a significant milestone today as the first barge load of pine harvested from the Muani Pine Scheme in Kadavu has successfully arrived at Lautoka Tropik Port.

This pine will be transported to Tropik Woods in Lautoka for further processing.

Forestry Minister Kalaveti Ravu says in just three weeks, 2,000 tonnes of pine were harvested, showcasing the dedication and efficiency of all stakeholders involved.

He says the arrival of the first barge load is a proud moment for the Ministry and the Fiji Government, as it demonstrates the successful implementation of the Maritime Pine Commercial Subsidy. Ravu says this government initiative, which includes barge subsidies, aims to ensure better economic returns for landowners.

Ravu thanked the Ministry of Finance for their support and funding, which has been crucial for this project's success.

He also acknowledged the Fiji Pine Group of Companies for their leadership and hard work.

Looking ahead, the Forestry Minister expressed optimism about expanding this initiative, with more funding expected in the next financial year.

He also acknowledged Drelaga Holdings, Burning Bush Pte Ltd, and the logging crews for their dedication and hard work.

The Minister specially thanked the Fiji Pine Trust for coordinating operations and logistics, ensuring the project's success.

He also thanked the Vanua o Waikatakata and the Turaga na Juravu for their hospitality and support.

Ravu praised Naboutini Transport for constructing the Muani Jetty, which facilitated the timely transfer of logs and he acknowledged the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) for their technical advice during the jetty's construction.

The Minister expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in the project, emphasizing the importance of their contributions to the sustainable development of Fiji's pine industry.

He also called for continued collaboration towards a prosperous future for the industry.
