We are not sinking, the Chinese are not taking over as Rabuka has said and we have borrowed some money from the Chinese government but very little from what they are saying.

FijiFirst General Secretary Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said this in response to a question by Sasawira resident Elenoa Rabuli at the FijiFirst Party campaign meeting at the Hanuman Gadi Temple Hall in Nakasi.

Rabuli said that last week NFP had said that the government owes a large amount of money and she wants to ask if this is true.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the government owes money and all governments in Fiji have borrowed money.

He says 99.99% of all governments borrow money because government does not run a business on profit.

He says if money is borrowed to build a four lane road and put electricity in Sasawira, do a subdivision in Sasawira and get people 99 year leases, that is good borrowing and good debt.

Sayed-Khaiyum says all the previous governments in Fiji have borrowed money.
