The Gallagher Chiefs will host the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific grand final after beating the ACT Brumbies 19-6 in what was an epic battle at FMG Stadium in Waikato last night.
The Brumbies looked like they were going to give the host a good run for their money for the whole 80 minutes after the Chiefs held a slight 6-3 lead at halftime.
Nippy flyhalf Damien McKenzie was the toast for the host side scoring 14 points off his boots thanks to four penalty kicks at goal and a conversion.
All Blacks lock Brodie Retallick scored the winning try in the 78th minute for the Chiefs that had the Brumbies losing all hope of pulling a miracle comeback in the last minute when the scores were at 12-6 in favour of the hosts.
The Chiefs will now take on defending champions the Crusaders next Saturday in Waikato with the time to be later confirmed.
In the first semi final, the Crusaders walloped the Blues 52-15 in Christchurch on Friday night.
