The Fiji Roads Authority has confirmed that the temporary weight restrictions on the Tamavua-i-wai Bridge will be lifted as of 8pm today.
Fiji Roads Authority CEO, Jonathan Moore says that the weight restriction will return to the former 16 tonnes to 32 tonnes Gross Vehicle Mass.
The daily weight restriction was 20 tonnes.
He says that over the past four months FRA had undertaken planned structural strengthening works on the Tamavua-i-wai Bridge on Queens Road adding that during this time there has been reduced vehicle weight restrictions in place.
Moore says that the strengthening works were finished last month and an independent engineering assessment has been completed.
However Moore also highlighted that the Land Transport Authority has committed to remain at the Tamavua-i-wai bridge and continue the enforcement of these weight restrictions.
Moore revealed that if there is a requirement to transport combination vehicles with a heavier gross vehicle mass than 32 tonnes and exemption will be required.
He says that the process for obtaining an exemption starts by submitting a completed LTA Overweight Vehicle Exemption Form to FRA clearly specifying the vehicle configuration, date and time of transportation as well as the gross combination weight of the vehicle.
Moore says that if an exemption is approved, then the overweight vehicle movement must occur during night time operations with the bridge configured to one way traffic flow that will be coordinated with LTA and Police.
