Telecom Fiji Limited has announced that customers will no longer have the burden of having to use their data at different times and are now free to use it as they want.
Telecom also says that apart from this, they are getting ready to introduce a game‑changer, something that they know Fijians will love.
The company says in a historic break from the usual off‑peak and peak data conditions that internet plans had built into them by internet providers, Telecom customers are now able to use their data at any time of the day they want.
Telecom says the decision is the start of a new initiative by Telecom to empower its customers and take into consideration the central role the internet plays in households today.
Telecom CEO, Charles Goundar says they arrived at this decision for a simple reason ‑ complete data freedom for Fijians.
Previously, internet data plans were distributed into two usage periods ‑ peak, which is 6am to 6pm and off‑peak, which is 6pm to 6am.
Goundar says they believe customers should not have restrictions placed on the data that they have paid for. He says you paid for your data, you should be able to use it when you need.
Goundar says they already have one of the cheapest data plans in the market, and they now want to focus on user freedom.
He says this major change is just the tip of the iceberg as he has also hinted at other upcoming plans that should surprise and delight customers in the future.
According to him, this is the beginning of a whole host of changes that Telecom’s customers will experience.
Goundar says it is going to be exciting times ahead, not just for Telecom but for all their loyal customers so stay tuned.
Meanwhile we are still awaiting a response from all telecommunication companies as wholesale data rates that the companies pay to FINTEL dropped yesterday from $40,000 to $640 per 10 GB line.
This is a drastic reduction in wholesale rates and people are eagerly awaiting the announcement from the telecommunications companies on when the huge reduction will be passed down to consumers.
Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission CEO, Joel Abraham says the changes should see prices for consumers eventually reduce.
