Tebara Buses Limited CEO Arvind Maharaj said the bus company has completed tests of the Digicel E-Ticketing System in the last few months.
Maharaj said from this afternoon, they will launch its pilot program with chosen passengers from various areas.
Maharaj said before the actual commercial launch by Digicel, Tebara wants to ensure that each and every machine is working properly.
He said the new system is a Tap-On and Tap-Off system, whereby passengers need no talking with the driver and simply tap-on and then tap-off before exiting the bus and the correct fare is deducted and passenger card is updated instantly.
Maharaj added each tap takes less than 1 second.
Meanwhile, Digicel Fiji had said last month that it is working closely with Government’s Information Technology and Computing Services to see that the two key technological conditions laid out for the system are fulfilled.
Digicel Fiji’s Commercial Director Andrew Skelton said all the parties are now working hard to see that the interoperability criteria are met.
