The United States won gold in the mixed 4x100 metre medley relay at the Paris Olympics, recording a world-record time of 3 minutes 37.43 seconds.
China won silver with a time of 3 minutes 37.55 seconds, followed by bronze medallists Australia with a time of 3 minutes 38.76 seconds.
The previous world record of 3 minutes 37.58 seconds was set by Great Britain at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, where Team USA finished in fifth.
Meanwhile, Team Great Britain finished in 7th place in the final.
China and Australia also placed second and third, respectively, at the Tokyo Games.
Team USA was represented by Ryan Murphy, Nic Fink, Gretchen Walsh and Torri Huske.
The USA is second place in the medal tally with 14 gold, 24 silver and 23 bronze.
China continues to lead with 16 gold, 12 silver and 9 bronze and host France is third with 12 gold, 14 silver and 15 bronze.
Coming up in the Olympic Games, the women’s volleyball preliminary round will start at 7 tonight, the men’s archery will start at 7.30 tonight, round 1 of the women’s 200 metre race will start at 8.55 tonight, the men’s 100 metres semi finals will begin at 6.05am tomorrow while the 100 metres final will be held at 7.50am tomorrow.
