Team Fiji leaves for Japan

Team Fiji left for Japan last night to compete in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games that will be held from 23rd July to 8th August.

They watched the farewell message from Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and the Minister for Youth and Sports Praveen Bala before departure.

Team Fiji will be represented in six sports including athletics, judo, rugby sevens, sailing, swimming and table tennis.

A total of 53 individuals make up Team Fiji.

Tevita Takayawa will be competing in Judo, Taichi Vakasama is competing in the 200m breaststroke, Cheyenne Rova is taking part in women’s 50m freestyle, Banuve Tabakaucoro will run in 100 metres, Sophia Morgan is taking part in Sailing and Sally Yee will compete in Table Tennis.

All members of the Fiji men's and women's 7s teams also left last night.

Semi Radradra will meet up with the team in Japan.

The Fiji men's 7s team has two matches on the opening day.

They will play Japan on the 26th of this month at 12pm before taking on Canada at 8pm.

Fiji will then play Great Britain at 12.30pm on the next day.

The top two teams in each pool, plus the two third-placed teams with the highest points total will qualify for the quarterfinals which will kick off on the 28th of this month.
