The teacher of Lelean Memorial High School who allegedly assaulted some Year 9 students has been granted bail.
28-year-old Filipe Qio appeared before Nausori Magistrate Thompson Lee this morning.
He is charged with one count of assault.
The defence asked the court if the teacher can be bailed as it is the final weeks of school and he is also supervising students during their exams.
Magistrate Lee told Qio that he will allow for his bail but he has to follow the bail conditions and he has to attend all his court hearings.
Police say the teacher allegedly used an object to discipline the students who were making noise in their classroom.
One of the students lodged a report and investigations were conducted.
When asked on reports coming in that about 47 students were disciplined, Police say that is what is being claimed however one student came forward to report the matter.
The case has been adjourned to 16th December.
We have also sent questions to Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro.
