The US Ambassador to Fiji Joseph Cella says there is a hunger for Fijian-made products in the United States and a hunger here in Fiji for American made products.
Speaking on the Fiji Forward Roundtable on imports and exports, Cella says there has been a series of talks between buyers, sellers and government regulators on how they can increase this trade in goods.
He says this will ultimately result in more choices, lower prices and more jobs for Fijians and Americans.
According to US statistics, Fiji exports about $243 million worth of products to the US every year which includes water, sugar and processed fish.
Fiji imports about $60.4 million worth of products from US each year.
Minister for Commerce, Trade and Tourism, Faiyaz Koya says exports are a bright spot for the Fijian economy which is coping with the loss of tourism revenue due to COVID-19.
The session also included attendees from representatives from the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji on how to bring in US food products and how to buy directly from US sellers.
