1,500 solar reading lamps, 1,500 solar Led radios, 100 solar mosquito traps and 70 10W solar kits have been donated by Taiwan.

People in rural areas and outer islands will soon receive handy solar products donated by the Government of Taiwan.

Solar reading lamps, solar LED radios, solar mosquito traps and solar panel 10W kits valued at US$150,000 altogether have been handed over to the Fijian Government.

The Taipei Trade Office in Fiji says the solar products are handy and easy to be distributed to people living in remote areas.

It says people can turn on the lights, listen to radio, eliminate mosquitoes, children can read at night without having to worry about the electricity bill, thanks to the technology of renewable energy.

The Trade Office says now that the economy has been badly hit by the pandemic and some houses were destroyed by TC Yasa and Ana, the handy solar products can help people save money on the electricity bill and make their lives easier.

In 2018 this first donation of solar products, solar power off-grid systems valued at US$400,000 were installed at Baleiyaganiga Village in Cakaudrove, Namuka-i-cake District School in Macuata and Wainikeli District School in Taveuni.

The schools enjoyed free electricity generated by the solar power systems.
