Taiwan has made history becoming the first Asian country to ban the sale and consumption of cat and dog meat.
The country’s parliament passed a legal amendment to its Animal Protection Act and anyone caught breaching the order faces a large fine or up to two years in prison ‑ and having their names and photographs made public.
Dog meat was once regularly eaten in Taiwan but the animal is now more likely to be considered a member of the family.
