Suva-based Taha Rugby Club caused a major upset in the Suva Rugby Union’s Koroturaga Trophy competition after defeating Navy 8-3 yesterday.
The Rotuman Rugby Club fought tooth and nail to secure this win and club Director Chris Kau'ata says it is a tough game and the score says it all.
Kau’ata says he is proud of his players and the hard work they had put in to achieve the win, and he knows this is just the beginning.
Kau'ata has called on Rotumans in Fiji and across the world to support their Suva-based rugby team and provide pathways for more Rotumans to follow their dreams and play professional rugby in the future.
Both teams were locked at 3-all at halftime, but Taha scored the only points of the second half through an unconverted try.
In other round 1 matches of the Koroturaga competition, Eastern Saints Gold defeated FNU Ruggers 25-16, RKS OB 2 beat Qauia Green 23-7, Army Red thumped Nasevou 29-7, QVS OB 2 defeated FNU CAFF 32-13, and Lami Cavaliers 2 edged FNU Brothers 13-8.
