Pacific sprint king Banuve Tabakaucoro will make his Olympic Games debut in heat 2 of the Men’s 100m preliminary round this afternoon.
Tabakaucoro has ran a season-best of 11.20 and is 520th in the world ranking.
The first three from each heat will qualify for the next round.
The race will begin at 2.43pm.
Tabakaucoro is Fiji’s highest ranked athlete on the World Athletics Ranking table and he qualified by Universality Placement.
According to World Athletics, Universality places are reserved for National Olympics Committee with no athletes who have achieved an Olympic Qualifying Time or Olympic Selection Time.
Tabakaucoro had failed to meet the Olympic qualifying time of 10.05 seconds despite finishing first in the National Easter Championship 100 metres open final at the ANZ Stadium in April.
He ran a time of 10.79 seconds.
