A family of three is now homeless after Tropical Cyclone Sarai destroyed their house in Vunivivi in Nausori.

The one bedroom house had its rooftop blow away by strong winds and walls heavily damaged causing the family to move to an evacuation centre.

Apisalome Delaibatiki who stays there with his wife and youngest daughter says they started experiencing strong winds at 4pm on Friday afternoon.

He says the roof iron started getting blown away one by one.

He says the strong winds and heavy rain started to intensify after 7pm on Friday and this resulted in most of the people living in area to evacuate to Nausori Primary School.

Other families have also been staying at Nausori Primary School for two days now.

Akosita Takali moved to the evacuation centre on Friday with her grand children as the strong winds and heavy rain intensified.

Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama visited residents of Vunivivi who are currently accommodated at the Nausori Primary School today.

Bainimarama says the Commissioner Central's Office will be looking into their situation and he has reassured them of possible assistance avenues that will be made available to them.
