Suva nightclub and internet café owners were today briefed about their operations code of conduct.

SCC Special Administrator, Chandu Umaria said that as service providers they must ensure to set up specific areas in their café for students.

He also called to provide filters for pornographic images and websites.

Umaria said sending offensive materials like pornography, threats, insults and slanderous statements to create hatred among Fijians here and abroad are strictly prohibited and should not be condoned.

He said some parents leave their children at internet shops and go elsewhere leaving children to fall off to sleep at these centers.

Stakeholders were also reminded about the Shop Exemption Order 2009 where a Suva Special Zone was declared.

In this area night clubs can operate from 5pm to 5am and any shop, trade or business within the Special Zone may open for 24 hours.

He said night clubs outside the Zone can only operate from 5pm to 1am.

They have been urged to make submissions to the SCC or Police on their concerns which will be sent to the Attorney General’s office.

Meanwhile during the briefing, Commanding Officer Central SP Tevita Waqabaca said during school hours children are still seen at internet cafes.

He said police will come down hard on night club and internet owners who continue to breach the closing times.

He has urged night club and internet owners to come up with information if children are seen at their premises during school hours and also at night.

Waqabaca said this is for the safety and security of our children.
