The Fiji Sports Commission has given $23,000 to Suva Special School to assist them for the 2015 Special Olympic Games which will be held in Los Angeles.
This is the first time Fiji will be taking part in the Special Olympic World Games.
While speaking at the presentation, Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports Iliesa Delana said they want to ensure all Fijians with intellectual disabilities that they deserve to be recognized in sports.
As a former gold medallist, Delana said the Special Olympics is about raising awareness about the abilities of people with intellectual disabilities.
Meanwhile, a 17-year-old Sikeli Nakoivalu, who will be taking part in the 100 metres and javelin, said it is a privilege for him to represent Fiji and he will do his best.
The team consists of 6 students and 3 officials and are expected to leave the country on the 21st of next month.
