The Vodafone Suva Open Tennis Tournament will serve not only as a warm up for our players attending the Pacific Games but also as a development for our junior players.
Suva Tennis Association President Dr. Pin Ma highlighted this saying it is also to get exposure to different players and promote the sport.
Dr. Ma say one way of doing that is getting more beginner players to pick up the sport.
He says that team Fiji Tennis reps should see this as warm up to get used to the tournament format in the Pacific Games in November.
14-year-old Fiji rep Sina Izumi says this tournament will serve as a good practice and warm-up in the lead up to the Pacific Games.
The 14-year-old who scooped a Bronze medal in the Pacific Nations held in Samoa this year is excited to represent Fiji to another level.
Izumi says the weather has been a major deterrent to her training as she thinks that she needs more games before the Pacific Games.
Ben Sonewa who has also qualified for the Pacific Games says he wants to use the Suva Open to challenge himself.
Meanwhile, Tarani Kamoe says she is physically and mentally ready for this years Pacific Games.
Kamoe says she looks forward to an intense training as this is the only tournament for her build-up till the Pacific Games.
8 tennis players named for Pacific Games in November are 4 females Sina Izumi, Grace Debalevu, Tarani Kamoe and Ruby Coffin along with 4 males Ben Sonewa, Storm Cornish, Raynal Singh and Willim O’Corner.
