Suva Market Vendors Association President Sofia Talei

It was a double celebration for the Suva Market vendors after 18 of their vendors received Food Handlers Certificates that was initiated by the Suva City Council in collaboration with the UNDP and included as part of the Fiji Day celebrations.

Suva Market Vendors Association President Sofia Talei says this celebration has brought all market vendors, council and stakeholders together as one and it shows the togetherness in their organisation.

Talei says the celebration will also showcases how the organisation is reaching to it’s members and guide their businesses to grow in the years to come.

She says their aim is to educate other vendors and provide guidance and support that will benefit their families.

Meanwhile, Minister of Local Government Maciu Nalumisa says the Suva Market is a cornerstone of our community where members of the public will meet and it’s an honour for him to celebrate his first Fiji Day celebration with the Suva vendors.

Nalumisa also assured the market vendors that the government is focused on the development of the market infrastructure that is currently underway.

Hundreds of market vendors, wheelbarrow boys and members of the public were part of the celebration at the Suva Market this morning.
