Suva Grammar School has made a strong start to Day 1 of the Coca-Cola Suva Zone 2 competition and will be looking to continue that performance throughout the 2-day competition.
SGS Athletics Coach Jone Delai says their preparation started two weeks before the start of Term 1 this year.
Delai says he pointed out the potentials that his athletes have and he worked with them to nurture and develop those talents.
He says coming into this competition, one of the challenges they faced in their preparation was the bad weather conditions and water cuts that were stopping most of their athletes from coming to school to attend training.
Delai says this year, they have balance in both the track and field events in both categories.
He says last year, they had odds stacked against them, and they proved critics wrong with their performance.
Day 1 of the Suva Zone 2 has kicked off at the HFC Bank Stadium with the 200-metre preliminary finals event underway.
The second and last event of the day will be the 3,000-metre open grade after the 200-metre heats.
Day 2 of the Suva Zone 2 Competition will kick off at 8.30am tomorrow with the 1500-metre Sub Junior girls final.
