Solo mums, widows and wives whose husbands are bedridden have been earning a living for themselves and their families at the Suva Flea Market for the past years.
This is according to the Director of Kelton Investments Limited, Carolyn Ah Koy who runs the operation at the Suva Flea Market.
Ah Koy says some women who started their business at the Suva Flea Market came from struggling families while some did not even have bank accounts.
She says even with the challenges, most women will always try to ensure they provide professional services.
She adds the idea behind the setting up of the Suva Flea Market is to service and create a safe and affordable space for micro, small and medium enterprises.
The newly opened Suva Flea Market now has three divisions with the main building being the Suva Flea Market Container Mall which has clothing and accessory shops and the main office; the South Mall is for handicraft works such as mats, masi and others.
The third division is the Suva Flea Market Bazaar which is held on the last Saturday of every month.
$35 per day is the cost of a space for selling clothes and jewellery and $55 per day is the price of a food stall.
$35 per day is the rent for a shop inside the Suva Flea Market Container Mall and $15 per day is the rent for a stall in the Suva Flea Market Southern Mall.
You can apply at the Suva Flea Market bookshop.
