Suspect who tried to conceal his identity while allegedly robbing a supermarket arrested

A man who thought he could avoid getting identified on CCTV cameras of a supermarket in Nasinu while allegedly stealing items has been arrested at the scene by police officers.

Police say a report was received after 5am yesteday from the supermarket Manager regarding an alleged burglary case which they were viewing live on the CCTV feed.

It says the person was seen moving around inside the shop with an umbrella and allegedly stealing items.

Chief Operations Officer ACP Abdul Khan says a call was made to the Valelevu Police Station whereby officers residing at the barracks and officers on duty were deployed to the supermarket complex.

He says officers surrounded the building where an officer climbed onto the roof of the adjacent building and noticed what was allegedly the suspects entry point into the supermarket.

Khan says the suspect after hearing the officers outside allegedly tried to escape through where he had gained access but was arrested by the officer who was waiting at the same point.

ACP Khan adds the suspect is being questioned as investigations continue.
