Four boats are currently under construction at the moment to ensure that no foreign animals enter our borders.
Agriculture Permanent Secretary Colonel Mason Smith said these four surveillance boats would primarily cover bio-security in the Maritime Provinces such as the Yasawa Group, Lomaiviti Group and Rotuma.
He added that this is being done especially since the country has lost a lot financially in fighting termite infestation and other foreign pests.
“These boats are important given the fact that surveillance is quite an important element of bio-security”.
The boats have a cabin which will see the Bio Security officers accommodated for overnight work and the vessels are expected to be ready by the end of March.
