Six-year-old Sairusi Goneqase has been given a new lease of life after a successful heart surgery at the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children's Heart Hospital.
Goneqase who is from Nasauvakarua Village in Navosa attends Koroqaqa Primary School in Nausori.
While speaking to fijivillage News, Sairusi's mother, Mererai Vatege says she first noticed something was wrong when her son would experience a rapid heartbeat after drinking cold beverages.
Vatege says she took her son to the hospital where doctors repeatedly prescribed amoxicillin but his condition did not improve.
She says around Term 2 last year, a team from Sai Prema Hospital visited their school and discovered that her son had a hole in his heart.
The 40-year-old mother says she agreed to every medical procedure recommended for her son as long as it helped him recover from his condition.
Vatege urges parents and guardians to prioritize their children's health by taking them to Sai Prema for screenings.
