Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru has reminded all teams participating in the provincial rugby competition that success is not about winning but it's about giving their best effort, showing sportsmanship and creating lasting memories. While officiating at the launch of the 2024 Provincial Competition, Saukuru has urged the teams to compete with passion, determination and respect for their opponents.
He says the Provincial Competition holds a special place in peoples’ hearts as they showcase the incredible talent and dedication of young athletes from all corners of the country.
The Minister says the Skipper Cup competition will feature 10 teams, the ANZ Marama Cup will also have 10 teams, while the Vodafone Vanua Cup will see 10 teams battling it out.
Fiji Rugby Union Interim Administrator, Simione Valenitabua acknowledged the support from sponsors who had assisted the FRU in organising local competitions and also took a team to the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.
He says through thick and thin, they are the staunch grassroots rugby sponsors.
Valenitabua says for decades, rugby has been ingrained in the fabric of our Fijian identity as it is more than just a sport but a way of life that transcends boundaries and brings communities together.
He further says the Fiji Rugby Provincial Competition has long been the breeding ground of rugby excellence in Fiji, showcasing the immense talent, dedication and shared grit of our athletes.
He adds it is where a platform for Flying Fijians are born, where our Drua players are made, and where the indubitable Fijian spirit shines brightest.
