230 residents of Vio Island near Lautoka now have access to a better and consistent water supply following the completion of a 650 metre, under‑sea, pipeline that connects to the Water Authority of Fiji Lautoka Depot.
Water Authority of Fiji's General Manager for Planning, Design and Construction, Nemani Waqanivalu says the villagers were overwhelmed when water supply reached the island adding that nearly all households on the island are receiving water through their taps at home.
The $104,617 project saw the installation of five 10,000 litre elevated water tanks and chambering of an air valve and master meter, and the laying of the 100mm PVC pipeline works from the WAF Depot at Vetari to the foreshore.
The project was initiated following the request made for assistance to the Prime Minister's Office by the people of Vio Island.
