Having events like the Taf'aga Suavak (paddle your canoe) is good for the sport because it helps build bridges between clubs.
Nadi Bay Paddling Canoe Club Assistant coach and Juniors coach Semesa Vilise highlighted this to fijivillage News, saying that it helps with the development of the sport 'Va'a' in the country.
Vilise says it also helps people in the sport to get to know each other.
He says after seeing the number of juniors or under-19s participating in the first event last month, he decided to bring three of their Juniors from Nadi.
The paddler and InsideOut member says he wanted to bring them out to compete and also meet up with the other Juniors in Suva.
Taf'aga Outrigger Canoe Club Vice President Gary Volau says it's really good to see more participants attending the race as it shows they are doing something right, something the paddling community actually wants.
Volau says since their last event in February, they have got at least 10 more participants in this event.
Volau says he was happy with the turnout and hopes it grows more.
