Students seen smoking in buses

Some students have been seen smoking in buses in the mornings.

In the past few weeks Fijivillage have noticed a number of school students smoking in school buses and public buses.

Even with the Tobacco Control Decree in place, students still continue to smoke in buses.

President of the Fiji Buses Association Zane Dean said drivers cannot be monitoring the students at all times as they have to concentrate on driving.

However the Ministry of Education has called on teachers to strongly educate students on the harmful effects of smoking and the harsh penalties.

The Ministry urges the public to play their part and report any student smoking in buses to their respective school or to the Tobacco Control Unit.
