Students recognized for their volunteer services

More than 50 students from four schools in the Western Division were recognized for their volunteer services to the community after receiving their awards today.

Speaking at the presentation of the Duke of Edinburgh International Award Fiji at DAV College in Ba this morning, Minister for Youth and Sports Viliame Naupoto told the recipients of the awards that they have done all of us proud.

He also congratulated the students for the variety of areas that they have been involved in their communities and schools.

19 year old Shivneel Karan of DAV College in Ba who has been awarded with the certificate and a silver medal said he has learnt a lot after he was part of this program in 2011.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in Fiji is part of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Youth Development and Training Unit.

The Award enables young people from 14 to 24 years old to learn practical skills that are valuable to their personal and professional development.

The three levels of awards are the Bronze, Silver and Gold categories.
