More than 40 students of Yacata Island have returned to school today after missing school for more than a month.
Speaking to Fijivillage, Umu Vulakoro says they are lucky that the New Zealand Defence Force assisted them in their rehabilitation phase after Cyclone Winston.
Vulakoro says the students have been given their new bags with school stationary by the NZ Defence Force.
He also says that the men in Yacata have collected timber and corrugated iron sheets that were blown away during the Cyclone, and put up temporary shelter for the families.
Vulakoro also says some families are living in tents.
He adds they have received food rations to cover a month.
