The mataqali Nabukebuke Namosi does not want any more prospecting or mining to take place in Namosi.
This has been highlighted by Domitila Nariva, a representative of the mataqali Nabukebuke Namosi while speaking to government officials at the Namosi Provincial Council office today.
She says the people of Namosi do not want any exploration or even mining to take place because it destroys their source of livelihood, resources and also the beauty of the landscape.
Nariva says for the past few years of exploration done by the Namosi Joint Venture, some bird species, like owls, are rarely found, and plant species, like wild yams, are also extinct.
She says their main source of income in Namosi Village is lemon, but due to the heavy exploration, not a single lemon tree can be seen around their village.
She adds investors come and earn their living from our resources and leave their rubbish for us to dwell on.
Minister for Land and Minerals Resources Filimoni Vosarogo says the coalition government will need to do more consultations with landowners of mataqali Nabukebuke regarding the issue raised by the villagers of Namosi.
Vosarogo says he needs the landowners of Namosi to understand what has been explored and the moderator between investors and those who are giving up on certain rights on surface land for the development by investors to take place.
He says the next consultation with the mataqali Nabukebuke will be held in early January next year.
