Aspiring mariners and future seafarers can set sail on their journey and explore the programmes and courses at the Fiji National University (FNU) during its Open Day scheduled for next month at the four campuses—Nasinu, Namaka, Natabua, and Naduna.
FNU’s Fiji Maritime Academy (FMA) holds certification as a maritime training institute, operating under a robust quality management system, ISO 9001 certified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV).
This accreditation empowers us to deliver top-tier training to seafarers, aligning perfectly with our vision to become the leading maritime training institution in the South Pacific region.
CINEC Maritime Campus, based in Sri Lanka, has played a pivotal role in the management of the Fiji Maritime Academy since 2014, bringing significant international exposure and expertise to the education and training of Fijian students in the maritime industry. This partnership between CINEC and the Fiji National University is a testament to the positive impact of international collaboration in the field of maritime education.
CINEC, the largest maritime institute in South Asia, is known for its world-class facilities and comprehensive maritime education programs. Through their management, Fijian students have access to cutting-edge training and curriculum, ensuring they receive a high-quality education that is on par with international standards. With its extensive experience in maritime education and training, CINEC brings invaluable industry expertise to Fiji.
This translates into a curriculum that is not only academically rigorous but also practical and relevant to the needs of the maritime sector. Through CINEC’s global network and partnerships with maritime organisations and companies, Fijian students have access to valuable networking opportunities. This can facilitate internships, job placements, and collaborations that can be instrumental in launching successful maritime careers
Every programme at FMA is meticulously reviewed and approved by the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) to meet the rigorous Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) 1978, as amended. This ensures that our graduates possess the qualifications necessary to serve on any vessel, anywhere in the world.
FMA Acting Chief Executive Officer Gihan Venturi said the academy helped students achieve their dreams.
“At Fiji Maritime, we transform students into navigation officers of their destinies and engineers of innovation,” Venturi said.
“Your journey towards a fulfilling and adventurous maritime career begins here, where curiosity fuels innovation and where dreams set sail toward a future of limitless possibilities.”
FMA trains local and regional students who want to become seafarers of the future, soaring the high seas worldwide.
“The Fiji Maritime Academy stands as a symbol of excellence in maritime education. We’ve been at the forefront of providing top-notch maritime training to seafarers, not just from Fiji but from across the South Pacific region,” he said.
“All our programmes are meticulously approved by the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF). When you graduate from FMA, you’re not just getting an education; you’re earning qualifications accredited by Fiji National University and registered with the Higher Education Commission Fiji.”
