Enhancing the living conditions of communities in informal settlements, the Ministry of Housing will continue to support RISE Fiji and ensure all Fijians have access to adequate, safe, and affordable housing, as well as basic services.

Minister for Housing, Local Government, and Acting Minister for Health, Maciu Nalumisa, made this statement while opening the Revitalising Informal Settlements and their Environments symposium at FNU Nasinu today.

The Minister says $1 million in funding has been allocated to support the program initiated by RISE, which aims to improve access to sanitation services and enhance drainage systems in informal settlements.

He adds with the increase in the urban population compared to rural areas, the Ministry and the government are facing challenges in meeting basic housing needs and demands.

Nalumisa emphasised that health is a crucial component that aligns with various sustainable development goals, especially those aimed at ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all ages.
