A visually impaired student with the slates for learning

Providing special equipment for the visually impaired is very expensive.

This was highlighted by the Executive Director of the Fiji Society for the Blind Barbara Farouk during the presentation of Braille Eye Slate to the Society today.

Farouk says this is one of their main challenges and the donation is a timely assistance not only to the students but to the teachers as well.

These slates have been specifically designed to help the visually impaired in their learning.

Nikhil Singh and Vinaal Prakash designed these slates as part of their final year project in Undergraduate Engineering programme at USP.

While speaking at the handing over of the Braille Eye Slate, Education Minister Doctor Mahendra Reddy says this equipment is a market product for student research.

Reddy says the current Fijian Education system has been transformed to meet the needs and demands of the present blend of students and the demands of the global society.
