A Special Outpatient Department wing in the Nadi Hospital has been opened by the Minister for Health and Medical Services Rosy Akbar.
The opening of the clinic has been made possible after the refurbishment of the old outpatient wing which was closed for over 15 years.
It cost about $70,000.
Akbar says the main aim of the refurbishment and transformation of the old hospital into the Special Outpatients Department was to reduce the overcrowding number of patients at the general outpatient’s department.
She says an average of 350 patients are seen in General Outpatients Department daily with a maximum of 500 and this may at times lead to complaints and frustrations among patients, thus, to tackle this problem the Health Ministry has partnered with stakeholders to help curb this problem.
Akbar also announced a $2 million maintenance overhaul for the Nadi Hospital that will begin at the end of next month and is anticipated to be completed by November this year.
She says the Nadi sub‑division has a population of close to 100,000 people and about 1000 visiting their clinics every month.
