Fijian-born former All Blacks number 8 Peter Gus Sowakula scored a try for the Gallagher Chiefs to help them beat the Hurricanes 33-17 in their Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific round 8 clash today.
Sowakula started at number 8 for the Chiefs and scored in the 46th minute of the game to start an impressive fightback after the Hurricanes took a 17-8 lead earlier in the game.
Chiefs’ fullback Damien McKenzie was the toast of the side as he scored 18 points through 3 penalty goals, 2 conversions and 1 try.
Though the Hurricanes were reduced to 13 men in the last 10 minutes due to 2 yellow cards being shown to them for foul plays, they managed to hold on and beat the Canes on their home turf.
In another match tonight, Mark Nawaqanitawase’s Waratahs will play Manasa Matele’s Western Force at 9.35pm.
