South Pacific Stock Exchange 2018 National Essay Competition which was aimed at raising awareness amongst school students on the advantages of saving and investing from an early age have announced the first and second runners up.
Aspiring pilot Dhaveeta Kumar of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High school was the 1st runner up in Category 1.
Kumar says she had chosen her topic to help students understand more about investments.
In Category 2, the 1st runner up was awarded to Aftareen Khan of Rishikul Sanatan College whose future plans include majoring in Accounting says she chose her topic as it involved a lot of calculations which had helped her work out how best invest in different companies.
The two students had received Samsung Galaxy J2 Prime mobile phones, $300 Courts Gift Vouchers, $100 Cash, $50 SPSE Transaction Vouchers, $70 RB Patel Shopping Vouchers, an FMF Gift Hamper and BSP School Merchandise.
Meanwhile the winners of both categories will be announced next Friday at the South Pacific Stock Exchange annual Awards.
A total of 239 essays were submitted from 44 schools around Fiji and the competition was divided into two categories.
The competition was launched in March this year with the assistance of the Ministry of Education had targeted all secondary schools in Fiji.
