South Africa defeated New Zealand 24-19 in the final to claim the Japan sevens title.

The Springboks with Cecil Afrika came back from a 12 nil deficit to clinch their second title of the season.

Afrika was at his usual best as he scored a try and converted a penalty to guide the South Africans after their dismal performance in Hong Kong.

New Zealand have extended their lead at the top of the world sevens series points table with 132 points, South Africa is second with 100 points while Fiji has dropped to third spot with 98 points after the national side was beaten in the Plate semifinal 21 19 by USA.

Fiji was leading 19 14 in the plate final with seconds remaining when Emosi Mulevoro kicked the ball to the opposition who later made defense into attack before they scored beside the post to make it easier for the conversion.

Fiji never looked to be the team that won the Hong Kong 7s last week as there were numerous errors committed in the game while aimless kicking was a major weakness in the match.

The national side took wrong options while lack of communication especially in defense was evident as two or more players were committed to the ball carrier at times which created the space out wide for the Americans.

Australia defeated the Digicel Fiji 7s team 21 12 in the cup quarterfinal.

Fiji has been pooled with Australia, Argentina and Spain in the

Glassgow 7s in Scotland which will be held on the 4th and 5th of May.
