South Africa has been crowned the HSBC Cape Town 7s Men’s Champion after beating France 26-14 in the Cup Final this morning.
The win is the first for the Blitzboks on home soil after 9 long years.
France scored the first points of the match with a converted try to Celian Pouzelgues in the 1st minute before South Africa replied with a converted try in the 3rd minute through Donavan Don to level the score at 7-all.
Zain Davids scored another converted try for South Africa to give them a 14-7 lead in the 5th minute before Varian Pasquet replied for France with a converted try to lock the score at 14-all at the break.
South Africa sealed the deal with two more tries through Shilton Van Wyk and David Brits in the 9th and 10 minutes with a conversion for the win.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways Fiji Men’s 7s side finished 3rd after thrashing Spain 47-10 in the 3rd place playoff.
The NZ Blackferns were crowned the Women’s Champion after beating the USA 26-12 in the Cup Final.
France defeated Australia in the Women’s 3rd place playoff to claim bronze.
