Lautoka Chamber of Commerce Chairman, Pyara Singh says he is pleading with some businesses in Lautoka to remain open as their staff are dependent on them.
He confirms some variety stores have indicated to close their shops during the lockdown as their sales have significantly dropped.
Singh adds businesses have so far not sent staff home and are hoping the lockdown will end soon.
Singh says apart from supermarkets, other businesses have changed their opening and closing hours which has also resulted in reduced hours and pay for the employees.
Singh has also raised concerns that while buses are carrying passengers at 50 percent capacity, mini buses, private vehicles and taxis are not following this protocol.
