Some students of Kubulau District School were taken to the Nabouwalu Hospital due to the contamination of the school’s water source which was under the care of the school council.
The Water Authority of Fiji says their Northern team quickly responded to an urgent request by the headteacher of Kubulau District School and carted water to the school after their water source had become contaminated.
WAF says the school headteacher had requested water carting assistance through the Bua Provincial Council and as soon as this was communicated to them, the Authority deployed a contracted water carting truck to the school, as well as to surrounding areas, which may have been impacted.
WAF says the safety of all Fijians, especially of children, is of the highest priority.
The Authority urges all individuals and entities responsible for maintaining water systems to take the utmost care, especially if the safety of children is concerned.
They are reminding Fijians to store at least 2 days worth of clean drinking water, especially during this time of drought when water levels at dams are low and could lead to water disruptions.
