Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the issue of some nurses not being paid their meal allowance is an administration issue and it is not a question of no funding.
The President of the Nursing Association had raised the issue of some nurses not being paid meal allowance at the Fiji Nurses 65th Annual General Meeting in Sigatoka.
While speaking at the AGM, Sayed-Khaiyum says this issue needs to be addressed and a lot of this is because of the failure of the people administering these institutions and doing their job on a timely basis.
He says this is part of the civil service reform they are carrying out.
Sayed-Khaiyum says so many times we see a health centre or a hospital and notice that a few louvre blades are missing or the place may not be cleaned well.
He says in the old structure a doctor started administrating the hospital when they reach seniority.
Sayed-Khaiyum this is the reason they are now engaging private General Practitioners to take the load off the public health system.
The Attorney General says there is a movement of nurses from public to private hospitals.
