Some customers on Vodafone network receive hoax messages claiming to retrieve financial reward

Vodafone Fiji says some customers on its network have been receiving text messages from unknown overseas phone numbers which are hoax messages sent with an intention to defraud subscribers.

It says that the messages ask people to contact them with details to claim their prizes or collect their financial reward.

The text message read as "Your cell No. Has won (1.2Million Euro) From Euro‑Millions lottery Promotion, Contact Ray Via Email on (claim@minister.com) For More Info. Send Name, Age, Cell to claim".

Vodafone Fiji says it continues to block such international numbers that have been identified as the origins of these hoax messages, but there is still a possibility that the scam operators could use other mobile numbers from other networks from the originating country and continue sending such hoax messages.

People are advised not to call, email or text any unknown international number unless they are sure these are genuine messages.
