The Ministry of Education has instructed the Western Division Education Officers to inform principals to close the schools in the Nadi areas that are affected by water disruptions if it goes on for longer hours.
This has been confirmed to Fijivillage by the Permanent Secretary of Education, Iowane Tiko who says that these schools are also facing a problem as there are not enough water trucks to supply water to the affected schools.
The Water Authority of Fiji has confirmed that the disruption to water production at the Nagado Water Treatment Plant in Nadi, which was expected to finish earlier this week, has been challenged with the introduction of high level algae flowing into Nagado from its source, the Vaturu Dam.
CEO of Water Authority of Fiji Opetaia Ravai says that this has delayed their work on the treatment plant.
A total of 8,767 households, schools and businesses are affected by this water disruption in Nadi.
Fijivillage is currently trying to speak to the Water Authority on the supply of sufficient amount of water to the affected schools in Nadi.
Some areas that are currently experiencing a low level of water supply are the general Votualevu area from Tadra road, ATS, Savunawai right up CAAF compound, the Holika areas, Nadele from Thompson Road upto Sleeping Giant, the Lolobalavu area and along Nadi Back Road.
Other areas affected include Nasau to Mulomulo village and Nagado areas such as Malolo, Navo, Tunalia, Nacovi, Sonaisali, Malamala, Nawaicoba, Yako, Nabila, Fiji Marriot Momi Bay Resort and Uciwai.
