Children of Korotasere Village in Cakaudrove, Vanua Levu will now study in the comfort of their homes and not crowd up in a home that has good lighting to study after Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka commissioned the Korotasere Solar System project.
Village Headman Wakeini Melo says they are thankful to the Government for hearing their plea and bringing new hope to the villagers.
He says before, around six to eight students would crowd up at a home that has good lighting to study, but now, they are studying comfortably in their homes.
He adds 36 households have benefited from this project, while the government has confirmed that they will bring the rest for the last 10 houses.
Meanwhile, 62-year-old Peniana Tamona says the Government initiative to provide electricity in rural communities like theirs is an answer to their prayers because it ensures safety, particularly for women and children.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka assured villagers that their requests for assistance to raise their standard of living have not been taken lightly.
He also explained that while some requests have been provided with funding, the rest would have to wait for the 2023-2024 National Budget, after which parliament would discuss and allocate funds for priority projects.
