Top seed Jannik Sinner battled back against American Mackenzie McDonald to avoid a surprise first-round exit at the US Open this morning.
Sinner beat McDonald in the 4th set.
The Italian was playing his first match since it emerged and he was cleared of any wrongdoing after twice testing positive for a banned substance earlier this year.
Sinner’s coach says he was physically and mentally worn down by the investigation after a poor start on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
