The Shree Sanatan Dharam Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji encourages people to embrace diversity and unity as the nation celebrates the joyous festival of Holi today.
The National Secretary Krishneel Tiwari says Holi marks the victory of good over evil and is celebrated in Fiji and other parts of the world as a festival of colours and love.
Tiwari says during this time, people come together to forget their differences and celebrate Holi with colours, music, dance, and festive food.
He says in Fiji, Holi is a multifaceted event that embodies cultural, social, religious, and economic significance.
Tiwari says on the day of Holi, Hindus engage in various rituals and activities like Holika Dahan (bonfire), prayer and worship, colourful play, and community celebrations.
He says Holi teachings are about forgiveness, joy in simplicity, brotherhood, and respect for nature.
Tiwari says the celebration of Holi can be traced back to the arrival of Indian indentured labourers in the 19th century. He says Indian settlers brought their cultural practices and traditions with them, including Holi, and over time, Holi became an integral part of the religious and cultural landscape of the country.
He says Holi is not only celebrated by Hindus, but by people of other committees as well.
Tiwari further says the lessons of Holi contribute to personal growth, enhance relationships, and promote a more harmonious and compassionate society.
The National Secretary emphasized that people should celebrate Holi responsibly and respect each other and the environment.
