Fiji Roads Authority CEO, Jonathan Moore has stressed that they have to carry out the road works along Lami, and people that are affected by traffic will just have to accept it as it is a short term inconvenience for a long term benefit.
Moore highlighted this after several complaints received by Fijivillage from people that businesses and people’s lives were affected while they were stuck in traffic for a very long time.
He says that everything that they do will affect somebody in some way.
Hundreds of people were stuck in traffic yesterday along the Suva-Lami corridor due to road works being carried out.
The traffic jam was from the Walu Bay roundabout to Wailekutu.
While FRA says they are carrying out road works in Lami during off peak hours only, many people are saying that there are a lot of vehicles on Queen’s Highway in the day and the works should be carried out at night.
FRA confirms that the road works will continue until next week.
The FRA says they have repeatedly advised the general public through public advisory that for certain periods in dry weather the road will be temporarily reduced to single lane and full traffic management will be present on site to guide motorists safely through the site.
